UNLV MFA Fine Arts program is so active, sometimes multiple shows create a campus specific art walk in a 30 day period where two Arts District galleries are filled with works from UNLV, just closing a show by a faculty member. To keep the program active, an auction will be held February 20 (see link on sidebar). At planning meeting in a campus gallery, MFA candidate Maureen Halligan was helping herd details, and later talked up "The Auction."
Maureen Halligan: As an MFA student here at UNLV, it has definitely been a busy start to 2015. We've been working together to participate in four (yes, four!)  shows in the month of February. That's not including all the Midways and Thesis shows.

Paint This Desert: I see UNLV is tapping into local resources to make The Auction a strong presentation of art.
MH: With so much going on, we are fortunate enough to have been given the opportunity to work with Aurore Giguet of the Marjorie Barrick Museum here at UNLV and Michele Quinn, owner of Michele C. Quinn Fine Art Advisory downtown to help showcase "The Auction." It will raise funds for all of the shows and trips we are currently participating in, or have planned this year.

PtD: Where is the work coming from?
MH: Many faculty, alumni, current BFA and MFA students have all graciously donated pieces that will all be for sale for the duration of the show, with a semi-live auction on the night of our reception. It's been such a pleasure to work with so many individuals that are willing to donate their time, work and space to support our program, because without them, we would not be able to participate in shows like our exchange with CCA in Oakland at the end of this month, or make a trip out to Dia Beacon and New York this Spring.

PtD: Shows like this, or busy months, shows how UNLV’s program keeps Las Vegas on the contemporary art map, but also works as outreach to the city?
MH: The experiences that this funding will help us accomplish are absolutely unparalleled in making this program unique, and it has been a fantastic opportunity to become more engaged with our community.

PtD: Any last pitch?
MH: Can't wait to see everyone there. It'll be the place to be!
